North Korea continues to pour on insults toward South Korean President Moon.
Following the North's explosion of the Inter Korea Liaison Office in Kaesong on June 16, 2020 (14:50 KST), South Korea reacted with strong words.
The Blue House NSC expressed "Strong regrets about the North's unilateral action….North Korea bears all the responsibility….if the North worsens the situation, we issue a stern warning that we will react forcefully."
President Moon had reacted with his own speech pointing out that North Korea had misunderstood the long picture of his peace initiative.
Rodong Sinmun, North Korea's official press, posted a reaction to Moon's statement with an article entitled, "Honeyed Words of Impudent Man Are Disgusting: First Vice Department Director Kim Yo Jong of WPK Central Committee."
In it, Kim Yo-jong blasts President Moon with words like, "There are some people who speak how well things are rather than actually doing anything. Whenever he makes a public appearance, he lets out childish and hope-filled dreamy rhetoric and tries to look big, just and principled just like an apostle of peace. It was so regretful for me to see his disgusting behavior alone. So I decided to prepare a bomb of words to let it be known to our people…."
Kim Yo-jong added that "The South Joson leader [Moon Jae-in] finally broke his silence during the time when the North-South relations have reached the worst condition." She said she felt disgusted when she heard his speech mimicking the former President Kim Dae-jung. She charged that Moon's speech had no substance, full of excuses, evasion of responsibility, and deep-rooted toadyism [toward America].
Kim Yo-jong belittled President Moon by saying, "He said things like, peace does not happen overnight, [peace] is like a winding river that eventually reaches the ocean, and we must have optimistic conviction, we must take one step at a time even if it's slow, and so on. He seems to be reading a script filled with fancy words and expressions, but I must ask if he knows the nature of the crisis. He plays war games and buys state-of-the-art weapons with an astronomical amount of tax money. He should be well aware of the fact that he is violating the North-South military agreement."
Kim Yo-jong did not stop there. She went on to say, "He stabs his eye with his finger more than once, and whenever I see him read the speech mindlessly, I worry because he seems out of it even though he appears normal."
In a different twist, her harsh words toward Moon Jae-in could also hurt Kim Jong-un's stature.
North Korean people have seen Kim Jong-un standing next to Moon Jae-in several times and many have imagined that Korean unification was imminent in the near future. If Kim Yo-jong keeps talking like this, one can speculate that people would be disappointed in Kim Jong-un himself for having participated in Moon Jae-in’s peace charade.
We will never know whether these words were Kim Yo-jong's own or if someone had written them for her, but one can believe that printing them on the official newspaper representing the Workers Party will have a far-reaching impact on people’s minds.
